Access Statement for The Waterford

 

Introduction:

The Waterford guest accommodation is located in the quieter north shore area of Blackpool and offers nine rooms in an imposing three story Victorian building, built in the early 1900's as a boarding house.
Whilst we aim to meet the needs of all our guests there are some period features which might make access difficult for people with limited mobility. Our rooms are on different levels, all are accessed by varying amounts of stairs.
The following statement is a summary of our provision. If there are any specific questions please feel free to contact us and we will endeavor to help.

 

Pre-Arrival:

• We are located just off the promenade on the corner of Warley Road and Gynn Avenue.
• The nearest bus and tram stops are located on the promenade 100 yards away and there are  frequent bus and tram services.
• The nearest railway station is North Shore and is 1 mile away. Taxis are readily available at the station.
• There are several local taxi companies, some with accessible taxis if required.
• The nearest shops, restaurants and takeaways are located 200 yards away.
• Our brochures and menus can be provided in large print by prior arrangement.
• Our web site www.thewaterfordblackpool.co.uk provides pictures of our accommodation and further information about the services we provide.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities:

• Please advise us of your anticipated arrival time so we can be sure we are here to welcome you.
• To ensure your accommodation is ready we ask that guests do not arrive before 2.00pm. Earlier arrival may, however be possible by prior arrangement.
• We have a drive which is accessed via a dropped curb, the surface is level, and coated with stone chippings (retained by a raised curb 5cm high) we have parking for four vehicles. The parking area has signage and is well lit.
• Access to the property is via a gateway where there is a 17cm step up to a wooden decked area.
• There are no restrictions for on road parking around The Waterford, adequate dropped curbs are provided. The area is well lit.
• We offer assistance with guest luggage.

 

Main Entrance & Reception:

• The entrance lobby is accessed via two steps the first is 12cm high with a depth of 31cm, the second is 15cm high with a depth of 12cm, both having good contrast.
• The entrance door remains open and is 80cm wide, side hung (right) with raised threshold.  
• The floor is non slip ceramic tile and of good colour contrast.  
• The front door remains locked and is 97cm wide, side hung (right) with low threshold.
• Assistance can be obtained by means of door bell located on the left.
• On entry there is a hallway (219cm x 234cm) within this area is the reception desk (108cm high). Seating is also provided.
• The floor is  laminate wood, good colour contrast and the area is well lit.
• There are a range of notices, guest information within the area; other formats of this information are available on request.
• A "please ring for assistance" bell is also located in the reception area.
• All guests are given a familiarisation tour, and escorted visits can be arranged.
• The door to the guest lounge and dining room lead off the hallway as do the stairs to all guest accommodation.

 

Public Areas - General:

• There are 10 steps (bearing right) to a small landing, with a hand rail located on the right.
• There are a further 6 steps with a hand rail on the left leading to landing one, which is accessed through a self closing fire door (69cm wide).
• Located on this landing are rooms 1 to 3, the corridor is 84cm wide.  
• From small landing bearing right, there are 6 stairs with hand rail located on the right leading to landing two.
• Located on this landing are rooms 4 and 5.
• All stairs are 20cm high with a depth of 26cm and a width of 84cm.
• All stairs and corridors have good colour contrast and are well lit; all flooring is short pile carpet.
• From landing two there are 15 stairs, with hand rail located on the right, leading to landing three, which is accessed through a self closing fire door (70cm wide).
• Located on this landing are rooms 6 to 9. The corridor is 75cm wide at its narrowest.
• All stairs are 20cm high with a depth of 26cm and a width of 76cm.
• All stairs and corridors have good colour contrast and are well lit; all flooring is short pile carpet.     

 

Lounge and Dining Room:

• The spacious guest lounge is located on the ground floor and is accessed through a self closing fire door (76cm wide).
• The lounge has three sofas (47cm high), central table and bar area (we are licensed for the sale of alcohol) Straight back chairs can be provided from the dining room.
• The lounge has a 37” remote control television with Freeview and Teletext.
• The floor has short pile carpet and the room is well lit.
• Breakfast and evening meals are served in our spacious dining room which is located on the ground floor and is accessed through a self closing fire door (76cm wide).
• We have nine tables which are 76cm high and 76 cm wide with chairs 48cm high.  All tables and chairs can be moved to accommodate.
• All crockery is white, and all table dressing in chocolate brown.
• Waitress service is provided in the dining room.
• Menus are provided in large print and a full list of ingredients is available to those guests with special dietary needs or food allergies. Please ask prior to placing your order.
• The floor has short pile carpet and the room is well lit.

 

Bedrooms:

• All our bedrooms are en-suite and of contemporary design with modern furniture.
• All are accessed through self closing fire doors with a minimum width of 70cm.
• All flooring is short pile carpeting, and all rooms are well lit and colour coordinated.
• There is a wardrobe, chest of drawers and bed side cabinets in all rooms. Some rooms have additional seating and coffee tables; please contact us for specific details.  
• All rooms have remote control digital televisions with Freeview and Teletext, remote control fans and mini fridges.
• Tea and coffee facilities and bottled water are provided.
• We also provide a hair drier, toiletries, and "survival kit" with basic first aid kit etc.
• Our beds are made with synthetic duvets and pillows, we are happy to provide sheets and blankets if preferred. Please specify before your arrival.
• There is a welcome pack in each room which contains further information and details of fire procedures, emergency contacts including doctors and hospitals etc. We ask all guests to take a moment to read the welcome pack.
• Bedroom 1:
• This room has two (3ft) single divan beds (55cm high) accessible from all sides.
• Bedroom 2:
• This room has one (4ft 6in) double divan bed (55cm high) accessible from both sides.
• Bedroom 3:
• This room has one (5ft) king size divan bed (55cm high) accessible from both sides.  
• Bedroom 4:
• This room has one (4ft 6in) double divan bed (55cm high) accessible from both sides.
• Bedroom 5:
• This room has one (4ft 6in) double divan bed (55cm high) accessible from both sides.
• Bedroom 6:
• This room has one (5ft) king size divan bed (55cm high) accessible from both sides.
• Bedroom 7:
• This room has one (5ft ) king size divan bed (55cm high) accessible from both sides.
• Bedroom 8:
• This room has one (4ft 6in) double divan bed (55cm high) accessible from both sides.
• Bedroom 9:
• This room has one (4ft 6in) double divan bed (55cm high) accessible from both sides.  

 

En-suites:

• All our bedrooms have en-suite shower facilities, of contemporary design with modern fittings.  
• All are accessed through doors with a minimum width of 65cm.
• All walls are fully tiled with contrasting non slip ceramic floor tiles; all rooms are well lit and colour coordinated.
• The wash hand basin is round fronted with a height of 81cm.
• The low level WC is 40cm high.
• The shower cubicle has an opening of 67cm and the tray is 11cm high.
• All showers are electric and have on/off button and temperature control dial.   
• A non slip shower mat is provided for all en-suites.

 

Grounds and Gardens:

• We have a large area with wooden decking to the side and front of the building; there is one step (2.5cm) down which is clearly marked. The surface is ridged and under normal weather conditions is non slip, caution should always be exercised in wet/icy weather.
• The boundary is defined with a low wall, and there is an area of trellis dividing the seating area.
• We have a range of black cast iron furniture including benches, chairs and tables.
• There is a selection of planters which are located on all boundary walls, leaving clear walk ways.  

 

Additional Information:

• We have a L2 fire detection system, with call points, sounders and fire extinguishers on each floor. All rooms and means of escape are fitted with optical smoke detectors. Fire action notices are placed by each call point and contained within every welcome pack. For guests with particular needs, door fire notices are provided in all rooms to indicate to fire brigade extra assistance is required. Please inform us at time of booking if you will require assistance evacuating the building.
• All guests are informed of evacuation procedure on familiarisation tour.
• A full emergency lighting system is installed, and stairwells and final exit are permanently illuminated.
• Mobile phone reception is generally good.
• We are a no smoking establishment (smoking is only permitted outside for which a bin is provided).
• We supply a mini fridge in all bedrooms which can be used for medication/food and we can put larger items in our main fridge on request.
• We are happy to take delivery of hired equipment (please inform us if ordered)
• We are happy to cater for special diets, or any particular likes or dislikes .please advise us at time of booking.
